eMule Plus Forums _ Support _ ED2K link error

Posted by: horks Sep 9 2003, 22:56

When I click on an ed2k link in internet explorer, the link does actually get to emule+, but I get the following error:

Windows cannot find

CODE

'ed2k://|file|***********.avi|105138176|a57*******************|/'. Make sure you typed the name correctly, and then try again.  To search for a file, click the Start button, and then click Search.

when I click "OK", I get another error

CODE

Internet Explorer cannot open this helper application for 'ed2k://|file|***********.avi|105138176|a57*******************|/'.

The protocol specified in this address is not valid.  Make sure the address is correct, and try again.

(I know it's not really code, but it did it's job, it stands out from the rest of my post) smile.gif

I started having this problem when emule release v0.30a and emule+ hadn't put out v1gR2 yet. I installed emule v0.30a into a different directory, and clicked the magic 'ED2K Link' button in the prefrences. After v1gR2 came out, I upgraded emule+, and clicked the 'ED2K Link' button inside of it (since I no longer intended to use emule v0.30a anymore) This is when the problems started. The link will go through, and the file is added to my download list, but these error windows pop up everytime. And if the website tries to send more than one ed2k link at the same time, the error popups kill all the links after the first one. Please help me, thanks smile.gif

is the ed2k link valid?

the 2nd error is caused by not selecting the ed2k button, but ive never seen the other one before.

Yea, the link is valid. it's added to my download list, and works just fine (cept for the fact that I get the error)

No matter how many times I hit the ed2k link button, it still doesn't work. can someone maybe point me to some faq about manually linking ed2k links?

Have you tried a uninstall and fresh update?

If you go ahead with an uninstall, keep userhash.dat/preferences.dat and the other files you want to keep...look in the Help section for a rundown on the files and their function.

Assuming you know how to use RegEdit, you can try this:
Open Regedit.
Go to HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT and completly delete the ed2k key.
In eMule Plus go to Preferences -> Window and press the ED2K Links button.

It should work.

Deleting the ed2k entry from the registry was the correct solution. I was looking at the settings in there, trying to figure out why it might not be working. And I found some stuff from Sharaza, which I tried out, and uninstalled in the same day. So I believe the issue is with Sharazas uninstaller leaving junk.

Thanks for your help guys. I appreciate it A LOT!! biggrin.gif

"Deleting the ed2k entry from the registry was the correct solution"
Go to HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT and completly delete the ed2k key.

I did this but now if a click an ed2k link it takes me to an ordinary webpage and I get the

" The page cannot be displayed
The page you are looking for is currently unavailable. The Web site might be experiencing technical difficulties, or you may need to adjust your browser settings " message in explorer

this is the file

No file names or ed2k links. Read our rules.

Also WRT
"In eMule Plus go to Preferences -> Window and press the ED2K Links button."

I cant find this button in v1.2a can anyone please tell me where is is now?

After you have deleted the key in the registry, you now have to re-associate eMule Plus with ed2k links. You need to click the 'magic' ed2k links button again.

Preferences>general>general. wink.gif It's the first page in the preferences window.

btw. there was no problem with the link I deleted.
