I've set up the webserver on the same pc as e+. The url I see is something like this: http://127.0.0.1:4711/?ses=45773539&w=grap...at=&dummy=14358
The last number keeps changing with every reload/autorefresh. Why is it necessary to use this dummy variable? In case you are wondering why I'm asking, each time (I think) the number changes, a page is saved in the History and also in Temporary Internet Files folder. If the webserver is left running for a significant length of time with a low value for refresh time of pages, the result is a hell of a lot of entries in history and an equal number of saved pages in the Temporary Internet Files folder. I would rather this unfortunate side effect were avoided somehow. |

QUOTE(muleteer @ Sep 22 2004, 23:16) Why is it necessary to use this dummy variable? its absolutely necessary because without it, the auto-refresh would have to load all images again! with this dummy number the browsers do not re-request them and takes them from local cache. |

Is there another way of doing this? If not, then is there a workaround? Like encryption for example; there is a setting in IE: do not save encrypted pages to disk. Then we can have an option on the client 'use encryption'.
For testing purposes I tried out refresh interval = 1 sec! (only possible locally. of course!), then 10 sec for a few hours. I had to empty my cache after that. |

Workaround: do not use any cache.
This is absolutely needed for the people using it for the proper reasons and with a logic usage pattern, as it's not really nice to redownload all images because of a refresh. You should use GUI for local monitoring. |
