Computer configuration:
eMule Plus version: 1.2
Using proxy: No
Firewall: No
CPU: Intel Core2 6400 @ 2.13 Ghz
Memory: 2 GB
Operating System: XP Pro SP2
Updated drivers
for network and video:
Yes

eMule+ 1.2 GUI freezes for about 60 second to 2 mins when connecting to a server, and then freezes for about 3-5 seconds every 60 seconds or so for about the next 20 minutes, then runs OK.

Freezing does not occur if eMule+ is started and is not connected to a server. Freezing always coincides with server connection, for all servers connected.

Task manager shows about 80% on one CPU and 45% on the other CPU coinciding precisely with the freezing. There is no concurrent increase in network activity, memory usage, swapping or disk activity.

The image below shows the activity. First peak when started, 2 min long peak when connecting, and subsequent short peaks at 1 min intervals 22 times and then all is OK. During each peak the GUI freezes.

PC is connected to a LAN. The LAN is firewalled. The PC is not.

This is my new PC. The old PC was single processor 2.4GHz. eMule+ 1.2 worked just fine on the old PC for zonks. When istalled on the new PC *EXACTLY* as was on the old PC this problem started.

Nothing else on the network has changed.

New information 1 - the short peaks do not relate to server keep-alive. Doubling the keep-alive period made no difference to the behaviour.
New information 2 - inspecting the logs it seems that the 22 short peaks in activity correspond with entries of "Published 200 file(s) on the server, nnnn remaining".

Hope you can help.

Zom.

I suppose you have the latest BIOS from the Intel website.
Yes I do.
QUOTE(muleteer @ Feb 10 2007, 15:48)
Are there options for turning off Core2 related stuff in the BIOS?
Yes there is a facility for disabling the secondary processor(s). It makes no difference when the second processor is disabled, except that the single processor is pinned at 100% instead of two processors running at about 70% each.
QUOTE(muleteer @ Feb 10 2007, 15:48)
Try a clean install of eMule (the original eMule).
Can I do that without compromising the existing plus install?

Do you have PartTraffic option enabled?
Yes. It makes no difference when it is turned off. The servers page was active when the graphs were imaged. (It is not possible to move from the servers page because the GUI is frozen)

Is Lancast option enabled?
No.

How does load increase?
When the GUI freezes it snap freezes and then snaps OK again. I spent some time doing file number experiments, and the GUI freezing starts around the 2000 files mark. The interesting thing I noticed this time is that the length of time the GUI freezes depends on the number of files shared, but the relationship is not linear. For 2237 files it freezes for about 15 seconds. For 3000 files it freezes for about 30 seconds. For 5000 files if freezes for about 120 seconds.
The freezing always occurs during server connection.

Don't do that, it's not related.

I found the cause of the issue. Later I will give you a version to test.
