Computer configuration:
eMule Plus version: 1.2a
Using proxy: No
Firewall: Yes
CPU: Intel Core 2 6400@2.13GHz
Memory: 2 GB RAM / 250 GB storage
Operating System: windows xp professional sp2
Updated drivers
for network and video:
Yes

I have a total system breakdown on eMule Plus v1.2a . Let me explain a bit: earlier today everything was working fine. I went out and left the eMule running for cca 10 hours, and when I got home - nothing worked anymore. 1) Instead of 100+servers, I only found 3 working ones on my serverlist, others were marked as failed (3 or more times). Yet, I was still connected to one of those 3, but no downloads or uploadas were running, it looked like I was alone in the world - all of the downloads were (and still are) red (in the progress bar). After rebooting and restarting eMule some of the servers came back, but a lot less than there used to be. But servers being or not being on the list are not the problem, only a side-effect. The problem is that nothing works.
Furthermore, no searches returned any results (I tried few of my earlier searches that usually returned a shitload of files). I should mention that during last night my windows (xp pro sp2) got updated (automatically), but after that eMule client worked just fine as long as I was present at my computer. Clearly something happened while I was away, but I have no idea what it could be. I checked the firewall, even tried to turn it off for a while, but nothing happened. Aside from connecting to a server, my eMule+ client seems dead and gone. And another thing: I even tried to run System Restore on my windows to a date prior to this windows update I mentioned earlier. No use eather. I took a peek at Preferences (eMule), but couldn't establish if anything has changed. So, can anyone help me, please, please, please. I'm utterly crying.gif and on the verge to wallbash.gif !!! Thanks

Which firewall are you using? Try opening the configuration for the firewall and deleting the rules for emule.exe. Now when you start eMule Plus, your firewall will ask you again for permission for emule to connect to the internet. Give it permission to connect.

Are you getting HighID or LowID? If LowID, then you need to check further. If you have a router and you had done portforwarding, see that the ports that you forwarded are the same that eMule Plus is using in preferences>connection>connection.

If the problem only happens when your computer is idle, but everything works when you are sitting in front of it, check your power management settings.

Turn off the screensaver. You can physically turn off the monitor if you like.

In power management, select the profile 'always ON' and set 'turn off monitor after' to 'never' and 'turn off hard drives after' to 'never'.

Check the properties of your network adapter. Click the configure button and see that 'allow Windows to turn off this device to conserve power' is unchecked.

Hi & thanks...
I'm only using the in-built windows firewall and net-limiter that also works as a firewall, and eMule is permited on both of them... I even tried disableing the firewall completly (not a wise thing, but only for a while), with no effect regarding this problem.
About ID, I think I'm getting a HighID - "New clientid is 3144647***".
I do not use any screensavers, only the "turn of monitor after 45mins" option. The problem persists, weather I turn even that option to "never", so that's not it, eather.
The thing is that it died once, and never worked again, no matter what I tried to do. It looks like there are no other users except me on a whole network.
I unchecked 'allow Windows to turn off this device to conserve power' - no effect.
Here is a connection log I copied, everything seems to work fine, but no traffic occurs still:

4.12.2006 16:12:46: Opened port 19874 (UDP) in the internal WinXP firewall for this session
- These are the same ports that are mentioned in the eMule's preferences: connections > clientport. Should I disable the UDP clientport?

About router and portforwarding, I would need some further instruction - I did not do any portforwarding intentionally, maybe something happened while I was away?
I have an ADSL adapter - is that the same as router?

Which server-list you use is of no consequense..
  • Delete all servers, except the static servers provided in the eMule Plus archive
  • Update your IPFilter.DAT file on a regular basis
  • Disable Preferences -> Connection -> Server -> Auto-update serverlist on startup
  • Enable Preferences -> Connection -> Server -> Update server list on server connection
  • Enable Preferences -> Connection -> Server -> Update server list when i client connects
  • Enable Preferences -> Connection -> Server -> Autoconnect to static servers only

First of all, thanks for all the help.
Now, how will I know which servers are 'static servers provided in the eMule Plus archive', because I fiddled with it earlier on, added the servers with the most files to the static servers and removed all the rest from the static serverlist (wanted to make sure that I'll be connected to server with the highest number of files - does that matter, anyway?). It worked fine for years, until now. Should I delete all of them and update the list from the adress you've given me? unsure.gif
And, btw, I tried connecting to different servers as soon as shit happened, but with no luck.

Download the zip file, not the exe of the latest eMule Plus version. Then extract the zip file and get the file you need, in this case server.met.

The fact that you are seeing these fake servers means that your IPFilter is either disabled or out of date. Enable and update it at preferences>advanced>security.

If you are getting HighID (you are), then you do not need to mess around with router settings.

I'm a bit concerned that you are running two firewalls; even M$ does not recommend that. Also, look at the logs of your other firewall. Are there any entries of connection attempts being blocked that could be intended for eMule Plus? btw, disabling the firewall doesn't always work. To be sure, you should reboot after making the changes. To be absolutely sure, uninstall the firewall.

Hi again!
I'm going crazy by now! Since nothing I tried worked, I got a bright idea to uninstall and re-install eMule+! I didn't keep any files or settings while reinstaling, to all the "do you want to replace existing...?" I answered - yes. And - imagine my surprise - the thing worked!!! Not for long!
After several hours, the whole thing happened once again. This time, I was using my computer the usual way, browsing the internet, and writing something in MSWord. I had Outlook Express, Free Download Manager and a dvd player running. Nothing unusual, really. I didn't pay attention to eMule for maybe one hour. And when I looked -
most of the servers in the serverlist were (and still are) grey, only a few in black letters.

Here is the copy of the connection Log, maybe you can read something out of it, I can't.

Don't be puzzled with the (**) mark - I renamed those servers to mark which ones I've put to static list myself.
About having 2 firewalls - I didn't have any problems with it so far, one is in-built Windows firewall, and the other is from NetLimiter, which I use more to manage how many kbps to use for certain application, the firewall came with it. So far, there were no collisions. And even after exiting the NetLimiter - notihing happened eMulewise.

Could all of this be due to some virus? (I have Norton Anti-Virus 2005)

Donkey Servers with IPs that DOES NOT start with 62 are fake.. Delete them...

Try Preferences -> Connection -> Server -> Server Connection keep-alive -> 1

AND GET THAT IPFilter.DAT UPDATED.... (Preferences -> Advanced -> Security)

Disable MobileMule (Preferences -> Connection -> WebServer -> MobileMule) if you don't use it..

Disable WebServer (Preferences -> Connection -> WebServer -> General) if you don't use it..

If the update button for ipfilter is not able to update it, download this.
http://emulepawcio.sourceforge.net/nieuwe_...es/ipfilter.zip
Extract, rename guarding.p2p to ipfilter.dat, and replace the one inside your config folder with the new one.

Also, you need to check for virii and trojans.
