The FAQ says:

Nick
You can set a nickname that users you upload to will recognize you by. Please change the default nickname for a proper one.

Does changing your Nick effect your credits / anything?

The nick is not linked to your credits. It's just easier for people to remember other users. If everyone had the same nick it would be very difficult to find a friend or a guy you know.

And it's not a silly question, you are not supposed to know everything about ED2K protocol to use eMule+.
