if anyone could assist me in deleting a file it would be appreciated. I'm trying to delete a movie i downloaded from emule, when i try a box comes up telling me that the file is currently in use by another program. I've shut down all other programs (emule, internet, etc...) but it still will not go away, any suggestions??

thanks

rename file.avi to file.x and delete it then -or-
QUOTE (http://bergetti.com/millenium/cd/support/)
Software: Windows XP
Problem: cannot delete AVI movie files after playing them
Resolution: goto 'HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\SystemFileAssociations\.avi\shellex\PropertyHandler', and delete the "Default" value which should be "{87D62D94-71B3-4b9a-9489-5FE6850DC73E}\InProcServer32"
Caution: After you make this change, XP will no longer display the duration, bitrate, dimensions of the avi file. However, it will not give you the error with the AVI files any more.

Here is another way, maybe a bit complicated, but ...

* Go to www.sysinternals.com and download latest ProcessExplorer utility (freeware).
* unzip somewhere and launch it (no instalation is reqiured, BUT may require Addministrator rights under Win2K/XP).
* do a search by File Handle (press Ctrl+F) -- as a searched text enter problematic filename.
* click on found item in search window and it (correspongind entry) will be highlighted in main window -- right click on that highlighted item in main window and select "Close Handle". If closing was successful, then it will disappear from the lists.
* Repeat last step until all searched entrances (found items) will be closed (no found items in search window) -- now you can delete your problematic file.

In this way you can close problematic folders too. What is good in this way of resolving problem -- that no Windows/system restart is required.

ed2k://|file|windows.xp.avi.delete.fix.zip|1078|31D283B58556BF37115FCF3A5C07BFBF|/

or download this.
All it does it modify the registry.
So hopefully it's ok to put in here.

I've noticed that when eMule uses compression in upload you can't delete that file from windows explorer. You must go to your shared files in eMule and right click the file you want to delete. There you have this shell-menu. There you can press delete and it allows you to delete it. This only happes if you have eMule running at the same time. Other wise it is that Windows bug.

I think the solution it's easier than it looks.
The file it's probably being UL to somebody.
Did you try to delete it with eMule closed?

There should be no problem with this -- I always (very very often) moving files from one folder to another (or even deleting them) while eMule is running and have no problems at all.

Bazzik:
You did it because the file wasn't being used at that moment...
You can't move/delete a file during an UL/DL session.

During DL session -- of course not -- why do I need to delete part-file ??

During UL session -- easy -- you should try this wink.gif ... it's absolutely safe (well, at least for me smile.gif ).

You can't delete a part file but any shared file even while being uploaded can be deleted.

I can download from both, so your problem is Windows configuration related.

@Mazer
Then try any alternative to Windows Explorer -- Total Commander or FAR Manager for example...
