So am I. The restart pc feature in webserver will only restart e+ if Windows is configured to automatically start e+ when the computer is booted. Sure, it can be done using the registry and temp files, but that is a minefield best left alone.
If you just want to restart e+ without rebooting the computer, I would still like to see it done using another application. This will allow e+ to unload completely, avoiding problems related to incomplete releasing of resources. |

QUOTE(muleteer @ Jun 12 2005, 03:24) I want to know: 1. your OS (XP SP2?). 2. your firewall (name and version). 3. connection type (LAN card, USB port, etc. - which is the physical port your computer uses to connect to the internet). Thanks. 1. XP pro sp2 2. no firewall, linksys wrt54gs w/sveasoft alchemy 3. Onboard nforce3 nic I have found one thing which seems to be helping me. I usually installed ipv6 tcp/ip stack on windows install for no reason really, on my last reinstall I forgot to do this. I didnt discover it until I was digging around trying to figure out what was going on, after installing v6 stack I was immediately connected to razorback2 (which I hadnt been able to do for 2 days) and have not dropped to lowid for a good while. Of course only time will tell if it stays this way. Could this be connected, or is this mearly a coincidence? About delayed startup of emule on boot, I already do this. I use a program called DelayRun which starts emule and a couple other small things 60 seconds after desktop. I only do this so I get a usable desktop faster and everything is loaded before emule starts. I have done this for a long time, so I dont know what affect it would have otherwise. |

Is it possible that there is a bug in the normal XP SP2 networking that gets fixed by the ipv6 update?

Well ipv6 doesnt fix it, it seemed to help for a bit, but its back. I am done guessing about what may be causing it since I dont know that much about such things, and ill trust you guys will continue to look into it to try and find out what is happening. Im considering trying the vanilla client to narrow down where the problem lies though, eplus or my system.

The last time this happenned to me, I ran netstat and the connection was still listed as LISTENING, I tried telneting into it and the connection opened, so I believe it's maybe some kind of problem in the server thread(does emule have this??) race condition anyone??

I have observed this effect too. Seems to be a very complex issue. As I see it, when eMulePlus is running, there is a chain through which the data is forced to pass. This includes things like the firewall(s), antivirus, TCP stack, network adapter drivers, network monitoring software drivers, QoS packeting scheduler, ....
If any one of these suffers a momentary glitch, Windows will automatically try to reconfigure the chain to keep the connection going, but the reconfiguration might not be exactly compatible with what you had earlier, hence the LowID. Sometimes a restart of the client fixes this; other times the problem lies further down in the chain and needs a reboot. Sadly, these things happen. We try to do what we can, but a lot of the time this is not of our doing, and thus beyond our control. |

Mmmh,
funny thing is that only eMule Plus is affected. Every other application listening on that computer never got hit by that issue (official eMule, zz-mod of eMule, FTP-server, syslog client, instant messenger, ...). Of course eMule Plus is the one with the highest amount of traffic. So chances might be bigger. As said before. This issue never needed to reboot/restart any device between or the computer running eMule Plus. A simply restart of eMule Plus gives High ID back. At least for me. Regards |

The rebooting thing is from my own experiences - my ISP is not the most stable one (that's an understatement, btw. |

Yes this does still occur, and it does often need a full reboot of the system to remedy it. It only seems to happen if emule runs for several (3+) days without disconnecting.

Anyway, I usually run my ePlus at least for several. Sometimes weeks.
I restart it most times for the following reasons: - update to newer code base from CVS - MS patchday requires a reboot - suddenly Low ID bug I've had recently luck. But the last two days it stroke me twice. This bug is quite as annoying as the infinite internet connection check. I'll appreciate any work done on these topics. regards |

I submit another witness of this problem. Both emule Plus 1.1f and 1.1g are affected. Only a eMule+ restart is necessary for get back an High ID. I realize of this change between low and high id when my upload queue changes suddenly from 3000 users to nearly 500. When this happens eMule+ still displays the green connection icon and my id is still the same. Only when i'm changing manually to a new server the server says me to have a low id and to check for network config, but the lowid behaviour is already present.
I'm using Athlon Xp+ 3200 Windows 2000 sp4 with all the Microsoft update updates till november Motherboard Asus A7n8x-e deluxe Modem Usb Digicom Michelangelo Usb cx No routers No firewalls ADSL not shared 640/256 kb My ip remains the same.. but the lowid behaviour happens.. usually after 1 day of continue connection This post has been edited by LorenzGr: Jan 14 2006, 09:13 |

I'm a bit concerned too. Seems I might be putting too much of the blame on my internet connection. I'm keeping an eye on this issue.

I, too, want to say present!
I observed the same problem in December, after substitute 1.1f for 1.1g. It happened twice. Same symptons has everybody (problem started after one work day, lowID, no visible problem in the ports). In the beginning, I didn't understand what was happening, only that the eMule Plus Icon appear to be blindfolded or pirate dressed,.... I was able to pinpoint both problems as starting at the same time of the day: about 18 o'clock. At that time, I had the paranoid idea that my ISP closed the Emule ports, perhaps after same kind of sniffing at certain hours, so I did try to change the port used by the application.... to no efect. But restarting the application solved the problem in both cases. Last time I see the problem was in 29 December. I never see it, since then... Windows XP SP1, Router, etc.... Cheers, |
