Hi, pros!
I got new laptop with Vista Business preinstalled on it. First thing tried to install eMule Plus.
I forwarded the selected ports in NAT, and opened them in Windows firewall. Result - success, I can connect to any server and get high ID without any problems. I also patched the connections limit, setting it to 500.
The problem is my eMule Plus does not generate any network activity at all. No upload, and of course, no download. I have disabled Windows Firewall, and Windows Defender, but it didn't improve the situation. I have searched the Internet and the forums, I didn't see any clue.

Actually, when I think about it now, I have one idea. I copied my temp directory from another computer (with Windows XP). Maybe that's the problem?

Help appreciated.
Thanks.

If the partially downloaded files in the old temp folder are showing up in the list on the downloads page, then that is not the problem.

Enable the debug log, upload and download logs, and 'save logs to disk'. Maybe those will give you some clue. unsure.gif

Connecting to a decent server might do the trick. Read this post:

Also, try updating your fakes.rar. That is a popular file that completes rather quickly.

btw. Which AV and anti spyware have you got?

muleteer, the files are showing up. I checked the debug log, nothing there, I'll try the others.
I am connected to the best, trust me. I have some expirience with eMule, my mule downloaded at 100-130 for years.
Fake.rar is stale, just like any others. Seems like connection problem to me, but with high ID?

AV - Avira, SW - built-in Windows Defender.

Thanks for the help.

There was a recent update to fakes.rar. Yes, totally unexpected - we had all given up on it. rolleyes.gif

You need to dig a little deeper into how the Vista firewall works. There is a utility - FirePanel, I think - that is supposed to make configuring it a bit easier. You might need to make two additional rules specifically allowing incoming access on the eMule Plus ports. What I'm thinking is that you connected to the server, so the firewall remembers that IP and allows it to connect back to you, hence the HighID, but for everyone else this is not the case, and the firewall is not letting them through.

Sorry I'm not being much help here. I'm sticking with XP for the time being (other reasons - not related to eMule Plus) so my memory of how things ran on Vista dates back to Vista RC1 when I tested it for a few weeks. Things have reportedly improved tongue.gif since then, and people have already started moaning and groaning about SP1. wallbash.gif I also need a RAM upgrade - everyone says Vista needs 1GB to run comfortably - and my mere 512MB won't cut it. sad.gif

muleteer, thanks again for your help.

Well, your explanation about the firewall makes a lot of sense. The only reason why I think it is not related to Windows FW is that I turned the m-f-er off first thing after noticing the problem. I have to admit, I felt a little naked without FW, so I turned it on after 5 minutes or so, but during that time nobody tried to download from me, which is weired.
Anyway, I'll add the port rules in addition to application rule.

Considering FirePanel - I saw your tip in the nearby topic, so I tried to install it. It fails on startup with some message, which I can't see, since it is blocked by FirePanel splash screen biggrin.gif

Considering Vista in general - it's my wife's laptop and she is enjoying Vista L&F. So, I need to solve my problems wink.gif

For your own good, turning off the Windows Firewall doesn't completely work. Unless you have a third party firewall installed (which is difficult for Vista) the Windows firewall stays partially active even after you have disabled it, relinquishing control only to the third party firewall. I'm not saying this is a bad thing, but it is something you need to be aware of.

Wow, I couldn't ever suspect such a thing...
That makes things easier - opening ports explicitly in the FW should do the trick.

Thanks!

muleteer, thanks, man! thumbsup.gif

Glad it worked for you. biggrin.gif

I'm using Trend Micro Internet Security Pro (A/V + firewall) and it is working well on Vista, so if you get fed up of the Vista firewall, you could check that out.

Btw. which tcpip patch did you use? I got the one from the http://www.mydigitallife.info site for my version of tcpip.sys (one after install, and another one after update). I get two errors, then it tells me file patched succesfully, but I still get the 4226 errors. sad.gif Maybe I have to patch in safe mode or something. unsure.gif

The same patches are available here: http://www.yaronmaor.net/repair.htm
