Full Version: Reading the QR

I've looked over the info for new users, but I still don't fully understand how to read the QR.

Right now, my most desired file reads 1430 (-257), the text in green (which I know means making progress). I'm guessing 1430 means I'm #1430 in the waitlist (ugh), but what does the -247 mean? Does it mean I've gone up 247 spots in the list?

Also I waited a very long time last yesterday, 12 hours for this file. I was in I believe the 100s or 200s after about 4-5 hours of waiting, and then eMule disconnected, then reconnected, but I was thrown back into the 1000s. Altogether I waited around 12 hours yesterday, when it finally connected but then disconnected again. When I checked the computer, I was back in the 1000s, with only 1.8% downloaded.

I saw something talking about lowid, too, but it was an old thread. If I can speed-up by changing the IP address and/or port, is there any updated info to look at?

Thanks.

That QR is reported by remote sources. Use it as reference only.
Downloading eMules request waiting status from time to time from the uploading sources -- you can see this information in the downloading list when you expand a file to see sources -- check source tooltips. -247 means that from the last reask, you advanced by 247 positions to the head in the waiting queue of a particular uploader.
Position in the remote queue can change depending on many things: uploading file priority, number of files uploder has, your credits, etc.

The fact that you can't communicate with particular source could be ISP relates (yours or his); some eMule clients have implementation quirks or even bugs what can cause disconnections or miscommunication. Disconnects or connection timeouts can cause position loss in the remote waiting queue -- this is when you see position going back a high number.
One of the things you can do to improve connections -- increase eMule process priority: preferences->general->main process priority; or use windows task manager to increase eMule process priority to Above Normal.

If you have LowID, then it's better to configure your side to resolve it. It will bring you more benefits to download stuff and see more sources.
Usually LowID is caused by firewall or modem configuration.

Also, every time the other guy restarts, you lose your place. You need a lot of patience if the file you are downloading has very few sources.

Try to send a polite message to the other guy requesting his assistance for that file. If you are lucky and he reads it and responds, he can increase the upload priority for that file and/or set you as a friend so your turn comes quicker.

Try searching for that file and see if you can find a copy with more sources. That might complete quicker.

I've been using Emule for a few years and decided to give EmulePlus a try. I don't see any configurations or connection buttons to connect to Kadelemia servers, only ED2K. I don't understand why KAD support would have been overlooked with EmulePlus, but because it has been, I think I'd rather stick with standard Emule. It makes downloads slower not to have it.
